Ibuprofen was discovered by Andrew RM Dunlop, with colleagues Stewart Adams, John Nicholson, Jeff Wilson & Colin Burrows who worked for the research arm of Boots Group  and was patented in 1961.

It was approved by the FDA in 1974 for use in the USA.

Dosage
Adults: 200-400mg every 4-6 hours, no more than 1200mg/day
Children (2-12): 7.5-10mg per kilogram (2.2lbs) of body weight every 6-8 hours, maximum 3 times per day. Do not exceed the adult dosage.
Children under 2: Talk to a doctor.

Ibuprofen, brand names: Advil, Motrin, Nuprin.
Ibuprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), which relieves pain and swelling (inflammation).

It is used to relieve headaches, muscle aches, backaches, dental pain, menstrual cramps, arthritis or athletic injuries.

It is also used to reduce fever and to relieve minor aches and pain due to the common cold or flu.

Ibuprofen works by blocking the enzyme in your body that produces prostaglandins thus reducing pain, swelling, and fever.

Ibuprofen should be taken with a full glass of water and the patient should not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking.

If stomach upset occurs Ibuprofen can be taken with food, milk or an antacid. Doses can be repeated every six to eight hours or as directede by a physician.

Do not take more than recommended as this may increase the chance of stomach bleeding.

Side Effects and Notices : Stomach upset, nausea, vomiting, heartburn, headache, diarrhea, constipation, drowsiness, or dizziness may occur.

Notify your doctor immediately if side effects worsen.

This medication should not be used if you have severe kidney disease, allergies to aspirin or other NSAIDs such as naproxen or celecoxib.

Use only under the advice of a doctor if you are over the age of 60, are pregnant or plan on becoming pregnant as use has resulted in fetal and newborn death or are administering to a child.

Cardiovascular Effects
Controlled trials of of a number of COX-2 selective and nonselective NSAIDs of up to three years have shown a marked increase of serious cardiovascular (CV) thrombotic events, myocardial infarction, and stroke, which can be fatal.
